Textured Twist Ear Warmer

As soon as I saw the new fiddlesticks range, I fell in love with all the colours, but the Dusty Pink was calling my name.

I'm not usually a pink person, but I just had to make something for the chlilly afternoon school pick up, and this was a perfect fit!

Fantastic for stopping the wind from whipping the hair about your face, warm and functional, these are also quick and easy to make... AND the best thing is, it's easily adjustable to fit your head size.

TEXTURED TWIST EAR WARMER

MATERIALS:

  • 8ply Yarn (I used (just under half a ball) Fiddlesticks Superb 8 - 56 Dusty Pink)
  • 4.5mm Hook
  • Yarn sewing needle
  • Scissors

GAUGE:

5cm = 8 sts x 10 rows

Ear Warmer Measures Approx. 10cm Wide & 58cm Circumference

(Fits my head which is 56cm cricumference)

ABBRIEVIATIONS: US terms

sc - single crochet  sl st - slip stitch  ch - chain
 dc - double crochet  sp(s) - space(s)  st(s) - stitch(es)
(....) - repeat between the brackets  [4] - stitch count  sk - skip

PATTERN:

EAR WARMER: (multiples of 2)

Row 1/ (RIGHT SIDE) ch 92, in 2nd ch from hook (Fig.1), (sc1, dc1) in same st (Fig.2), (sk1, (sc1, dc1) next st (Fig.3)) to end (Fig.4) - TURN [92]

Row 2-16/ ch1, (sk1, (sc1, dc1) next st (Fig.5,6)) to end (Fig.7,8) - TURN [92]

* MEASURE YOUR FIT: after the second row, wrap your work around your head, over your ears making sure that the ends are just touching in themiddle of your forehead, this indicates a good fit.

  • NOT TOUCHING - you have not enough ch in Row 1 and will need to +2ch (or more) until you line up the edges to just touching in the middle of your forehead
  • OVERLAPPING - you have too many ch in Row 1 and will need to -2ch (or more) until you line up the edges to just touching in the middle of your forehead

** Repeat Row 2 until you get to 16 Rows for pattern or until reaching desired width ending on an EVEN row

EDGING:

  • ch 1, working along the LONG edge - (sc1 (Fig.9), (sc1, ch2, sc1) in next st (Fig.10)), to end of LONG edge (Fig.11,12)

  • TURN and work along the SHORT edge - sc2 each dc post along (Fig.13,14) equalling the same amount as your rows (for example, my rows = 16, so I did 16 sc (2 sc in each dc post) along the SHORT edge (Fig.15))

  • TURN and work along the second LONG edge - ((sc1, ch2, sc1) in next st, sc1 (Fig.16,17)), to end of LONG edge

  • TURN and work along the second SHORT edge (Fig.18) - again, sc2 each dc post along equalling the same amount as your rows

  • sl st into beginning sc (Fig.19)
  • Tie off with a long tail to sew the ends together

    FINISHING:

    • With right sides facing each other and the tie off tail at the top right (Fig.20), place your SHORT edges together with top left corner approx. in the middle of the bottom SHORT edge (Fig.21)
    • Holding the middle top left, wrap the top right corner around to the wrong side so that the right corner is in the middle sandwiching the bottom piece - the tie off tail will be at the very back in the middle (Fig.22,23)

    • Wrap the left bottom piece around to sit on top (Fig.24), sandwiching all edges (Fig.25,26)
    • Flip your work around so that the tie off tail is now on top right-hand side (Fig.27)

    • Ladder stitch through all the edge layers - right to left (Fig.28,29), making sure you get the middle edge stitches (Fig.30), ladder stitch back - left to right (Fig.31)

    • Weave in the ends (Fig.32)
    • Flip the Ear Warmer right-side out

    Voilà... you are finished!
